Lay Ministry
The misson of the Lay Ministry is to serve the ministers,
the Unity Church Family, and the community with prayer and a loving heart and Spirit.
I have recently been asked questions regarding Lay Ministry so I will give a brief review
here. We have l5 Lay Ministers at this time and recently welcomed Beverly Blevins as a lay
minister in training. The following will give the basics and I will be glad to send more
info if you have an interest.
- You must be a member of Unity for a minimum of 6 months.
- You must complete all required classes that may include but are not limited to Prayer,
Lay Ministry Skills, Prosperity and Unity Principles.
- An individual may come as a guest to a meeting and may begin attending meetings upon
fulfilling the membership requirement and completing at least one of the classes. Until
all classes are completed the individual would be designated "Lay Minister in Training".
One must complete all classes to become an active Lay Minister.
- Requirements for retaining one’s position as an active Lay Minister are - attend a
minimum of 6 meetings per year, attend a minimum of one class offering related to Lay
Ministry per year and it is strongly recommended that all active Lay Ministers attend all
the trainings offered for Lay Ministry
Then make an appointment with Rev. Tom and he will help you get started by visiting with
you about the Lay Ministry.
We meet each month (usually the last Tuesday) for a potluck, prayer and sharing. Every
other month we have an educational meeting. Some of the ways we minister are: visitation to
hospital or homebound individuals, correspondence to those in need of support, monthly
prayer letters and daily prayer, "Stuffed full of Love" program at Christmas, memorial
service refreshments, participation in "World Day of Prayer" and "World Peace Meditation,"
"Prayer Partner Program" and Sunday prayer assistance.
In Love and Light, Jo Marsh
